Carolyn Boteler’s career with TempStaff spans 34 years and she has worked every position imaginable within the company. She began her career as a receptionist, working for the former owners. She then eventually bought them out to become the majority owner. When she took over, there were only 6 employees and now it has grown to almost 40. “I have great, dedicated, loyal team. Our pride in our reputation is what drives us.” Making people happy and “helping them be the best they can be” is what reenergizes her to keep going.
Formula for Success
With several locations throughout the state of Mississippi, there is no doubt that TempStaff has become successful. As success blossoms, hardships arise as well. 2007 was a challenging year for TempStaff. The recession caused Carolyn to lay off some of her employees, for the first time in the company’s history. “That broke my heart”, Carolyn says. Now, “we are stronger and bigger than ever.” She accredits this to her WBENC certification. “The greatest benefit has been the opportunity to bid on large accounts. With this certification we have been able to bid on large multi-million dollar contracts for staffing.” Carolyn understands the importance of social media to attract new clients. Twitter & Facebook are two of the social media platforms that are utilized by her business often. “People are busy in every part of their life so we like to be in their minds at all times whether they are looking for a job or have a staffing need.”
Inspiration & Insights
When asked how to grow a business, Carolyn says, “Plan, creativity, be different. Always work in the trenches with your staff. Never ask them to do anything you wouldn’t do yourself. Be a trendsetter.”
