twenty year career in the telecom industry, Linda established the contacts and relationships needed to venture out on her own. Thirteen years ago, Linda Hawkins realized her childhood dream to be THE boss when she started tel-XL.

Formula for Success

Linda says part of her success is giving excellent service to her customers. “The satisfaction of knowing you’ve provided your client with what they need at a price they can afford is wonderful!  Make your customers happy and the profit will roll in.” tel-XL is fortunate to get new business from referrals and minimal advertising, but Linda enjoys the “old fashioned smiling & dialing” method to find new customers.

Linda considers her WBENC Certification to be another tool to success. “Being a WBEC South certified WBE has opened doors and presented opportunities that I know would not have been available without our certification!  While a supplier diversity manager can be elusive, they can also be your best friend…but you need certification!  That’s how the diversity manager can help you make inroads into accounts that would never have been possible without that certificate!”

Inspiration & Insight

  • Don’t give up!
  • Always find some way, to get in front of the decision maker when talking to your prospects.  Don’t spend all of your time and your best presentation skills on someone that cannot buy from you!
  • Be nice, be professional with the people that may have the ability to recommend or influence the decision maker, but know who you’re speaking with!
