In the heart of Tennessee, Javaneh Hemmat has blended heritage, innovation, and a passion for community into something delicious: Hummus Chick. For Javaneh, food is far more than sustenance—it’s a way to build bridges, celebrate culture, and create moments of joy and connection.
Javaneh’s journey began when she moved to Tennessee in 1998 as an international student. Although she quickly found a home in Nashville, she longed for the vibrant flavors and diverse cuisines of her childhood. “That’s when I discovered my love for cooking,” she shares. Through recreating the culinary delights of her youth, she found a way to both honor her heritage and connect with her new community.
But the true spark that ignited Hummus Chick came during a surfing trip to California. “As I sat atop my surfboard, scanning the horizon for the next great wave, I had an epiphany,” she recalls. It wasn’t just about sharing food—it was about nourishing souls, building community, and creating bonds rooted in peace, creativity, and lasting connection. Upon returning to Nashville, that vision blossomed into Hummus Chick, where she’s been living her dream ever since.
What makes Hummus Chick unique is its blend of authentic tradition and bold innovation. As an immigrant family from Dubai and Tel Aviv, and third-generation hummus artisans, Javaneh and her team bring genuine Mediterranean flavors to American tables. Partnering with local farmers who cultivate non-GMO, single-origin crops, Hummus Chick crafts vibrant varieties like Spicy Harissa, Zesty Lemon & Garlic, and Jalapeño Salsa hummus. “We’re committed to sourcing premium ingredients and blending tradition with innovation to deliver a delicious, wholesome experience,” Javaneh says. Her dedication to cultural authenticity and a mission to nourish both body and soul sets Hummus Chick apart in the plant-based and snack industry.
WBENC Certification has been a powerful asset for Hummus Chick, boosting both visibility and credibility. “It wasn’t just about opening doors; it was about realizing which doors were even there to begin with,” Javaneh explains. The certification has helped her forge meaningful relationships with major retailers like Kroger and foodservice providers, expanding Hummus Chick’s reach into new markets and communities. Beyond business growth, the certification has been a validation of her mission to empower women and build a brand rooted in authenticity and quality.
Javaneh offers heartfelt advice to other women entrepreneurs: “As entrepreneurs, we experience highs and lows, and it’s the support of our community, mentors, and peers that helps us rise through the challenges and celebrate the wins. Stay connected, lean on others, and trust that your perseverance and network will carry you farther than you ever imagined.”
For Javaneh, WBEC South’s network has been invaluable, connecting her with like-minded entrepreneurs who share her vision and challenges. “These relationships go beyond just collaboration,” she shares. “We regularly exchange ideas, explore new opportunities, and support one another through the ups and downs.” The camaraderie and shared experience fostered by WBEC South have played a crucial role in Hummus Chick’s continued growth and innovation.
At WBEC South, we are honored to shine a spotlight on trailblazers like Javaneh Hemmat and her vibrant, soulful brand. Hummus Chick exemplifies how entrepreneurship can blend culture, creativity, and community into a business that feeds not just appetites, but hearts.
